Product and Service Assembly Initiative

The Product and Service Assembly Initiative (PSA) demonstrates an industry wide service model which delivers a practical understanding of how telecom services and products can be designed, created, assembled and launched.

"A major obstacle to us deploying a consistent product set across our 30+ businesses is the amount of time and effort required to define products, pricing, processes and rules in each of our local CRM and provisioning systems. The results of the Product and Service Assembly Initiative would demonstrate a way for us to centralize this sort of activity without compromising local CRM and billing capabilities. For Cable and Wireless this would be a major step forward."

Simon Farrell, Senior Architect, Cable & Wireless

What’s the goal?:

  • Identify the bottleneck for creating and assembling new services quickly and effectively.
  • Reduce time to market for new services.
  • Increase visibility of the service and network.
  • Bridge the service assembly gap between back office(OSS/BSS and front office (service launch).
  • Reduce the cost of product/service production.

What are the bottlenecks for Telcos?

  • Understanding what the market wants and matching this to technical capabilities
    • Stop “voyage of discovery” meetings
  • Calculating costs for:
    • Feature implementation (e.g. bundling)
    • IT implementation (the smallest things take the longest time…)
    • Overall cost per SKU
  • Actually implementing the new technology
  • IT projects to implement new functionality, integrate with existing systems, regression test etc
    • Designing, Resourcing, Implementing, Testing
  • Every time you launch a product, it’s a new project.
